The Depression economy was a time of financial hardship. Most workers were in and out of employment during this time, alternating between periods of employment and periods of unemployment. This was advantageous for many workers because it allowed them to avoid severe hardship and the psychological effect of being unemployed for long periods of time. However, many workers were unemployed for years at a time. This group, usually the poorest, suffered the most.
