Broward College Computer Science Program

The Computer Science Department at Broward College is launching its annual Hackathon competition, which will feature a 24-hour competition in which teams of four to five students will pitch a new software program. Teams are not allowed to work on their project outside of the time period. The top teams will receive cash prizes, and many other benefits.

Hackathon

The annual Hackathon for computer science at Broward College is coming up soon! This 24-hour competition will challenge students to design, build, and present new software. It is open to computer science majors of all levels, and even students with no prior coding experience are welcome. The Hackathon will be judged by a panel of judges, including software developer and Broward College alum Steve Orsino, Microsoft’s Denise Mendez, and Tony Casciotta, Broward College’s vice president of information technology. Teams of five to six students will pitch their software idea and build a prototype. This hackathon is supported by IBM and the University of Florida, with prizes for the top 20 teams. Teams will compete for prizes ranging from $200 gift cards to a three-month allocation of IBM’s HiPerGator AI supercomputer. The size of the allocation and the start date of the three-month allocation will be determined by the winning teams.
