Moovit is a mobile transit app that helps you find alternative routes and times to get from one place to another. The app works with public transportation and allows you to create your own routes, based on the information you enter. The app also lets you sign up to become a Mooviter, a user who provides transportation information. They then screen that information for accuracy before it goes live on the app. A geography club member at the University of Maryland partnered with Moovit as part of its pilot program. The students worked together to create a map of the shuttle system for the app. Using information from the Department of Transportation Services and personal knowledge, they produced a map of the system that Moovit users can access.
Public transportation is an important part of any urban area. It is a common method of transportation for millions of people. However, this form of transportation can be incredibly confusing for those who are blind or low-sighted. Moovit and Be My Eyes want to solve this issue by empowering blind or low-sighted users with information that will help them get where they need to go.
